According to a recent report out of Washington, prescription drug heists are growing at an alarming rate. Thieves are stealing large quantities of prescription drugs for resale on the black market.

Just recently thieves knocked over a pharmaceutical warehouse in Connecticut, taking upwards of 75 million dollars worth of pharmaceuticals. According to stats, pharmaceutical heists in the U.S. have quadrupled since 2006.

Many contribute the rise to the easy sell of the drugs over the internet from no prescription pharmacies. Lifestyle drugs like Viagra and Cialis can easily be bought and sold online without any prescription.

“Whenever you have a health care system where drugs are very expensive and there’s a fragmented supply chain, you’re going to have a means to profit from stolen drugs,” said Ron Greene, a spokesman for FreightWatch.

The FDA is trying to tighten down on these criminals, issuing alerts to the public, working with manufacturers, wholesalers, pharmacies and law enforcement, and publishing lot numbers of stolen drugs on a Web site.

When the file is clicked on, a woman’s voice comes on reading a the address of a website suggesting you to visit, all the while, there is some not-so-subtle moaning in the background. Obviously the clips are being used specifically for Viagra and Cialis in order to tie the lifestyle drugs to better performance in the bed.

Apparently, not much according to a  recent article written by the American College of Physicians that said all three of the medications preformed well in combating ED, and there is not sufficient evidence to recommend one drug over another.

“The evidence is insufficient to compare the efficacy and adverse effects” of the drugs because “few head-to-head trials are available,” the guidelines say. This lack of evidence comparing one drug against another is familiar. Companies often launch studies comparing new drugs to placebos, rather than to existing drugs; without head-to-head trials, it can be tough to know how competing drugs stack up.

A report by the WSJ has said that since there is not sufficient evidence of one ED drug being more affective than another, most doctors are prescribing brands based on price.

McAfee, the security software maker, has issued a new report detailing the most dangerous search terms on the Internet.

One of the biggest surprises, according to Security Pro News, is that terms aimed at children — like “Jonas Brothers” and “free games” — are far risker than online pharmacy spam terms, such as “Viagra.” According to the publication:

Viagra, a popular spam keyword, did not turn out to be as risky as other terms, probably not because the Viagra-using population is less Web savvy, but more likely because there is a smaller demographic searching for information about it.

McAfee’s report says the spammers’ biggest targets are children, who are thought to be less careful in avoiding sites containing spyware, viruses and other dangers.

Other risky keywords include “free games,” “Rihanna,” “Webkinz,” “Powerball” and “iPhone.”

Good news: e-mail spam for the erectile dysfunction medications Viagra, Cialis and Levitra is finally on the decline — apparently because consumers are wising up to these scams.

According to Microsoft research:

Last year the amount of e-mails for sexual medications made up around 30 percent of all spam e-mails; however, this year that figure has dropped to under 10 percent.

There is only one reason why this is happening, and that is because spammers are not getting returns on their investment, which probably is due to men becoming wiser and more wary about replying to these types of e-mails.
